Tungsten filament lamp is filled with halogen gas to prevent evaporated tungsten from blackening the interior envelope.
Advantages:
- increased light output and/or an extended life compared with standard filament lamps
- envelope is small and made of quartz or hard glass,
Disadvantages
- tungsten halogen lamps should only be used in suitably enclosed luminaires.
- small size means more compact light fittings,
- small filament size can improve the optical efficiency of integral or external reflectors make possible compact luminaires for display lighting.
